Dow Jones reports improved quarterly profit, revenue

New York—Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal, Tuesday reported it earned $20.5 million in the first quarter, up from $11.4 million in the year-earlier period. Revenue rose 18% to $507.2 million, from $430.1 million, mainly due to Dow Jones' acquisition in December of the half of the Factiva news database business that it didn't already own. Online ad revenue rose 30%.
