Dow Jones at work on 'special project'

Published on .

New York—In a staff memo sent Tuesday with the title "Special Ops" and first published at Poynter.org, Robert Thomson, editor-in-chief of Dow Jones & Co., announced a "special project" that will be "crucial to our success of our company." Thomson declined to elaborate further on his memo, but sources inside Dow Jones say the project is focused on the global financial industry.

The leaders of this project are Jim Pensiero, who will be its editor-in-chief, and Gabriella Stern, who will be its managing editor. Pensiero is currently deputy managing editor of The Wall Street Journal and previously helped launch Smart Money and oversaw the Journal's adoption of the Eidos Methode content management system. Stern is currently the Dow Jones Newswires' senior editor for global news coverage.

Thomson offered little details other than the new project will have a large editorial staff and will also use reporting from The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires.
