E-reader shipments to jump to 35 million units in 2014

Published on .

Scottsdale, Ariz.—E-reader shipments will increase to 35 million units in 2014, up from 12 million units this year, according to market research firm In-Stat. The firm also said that e-reader price points, pressured by the debut of the iPad and other tablet PCs, will fall, with a $99 model likely available by the holiday shopping season.

"Tablet PC shipments are taking off, fueled in particular by the Apple iPad introduction. Yet, there will still be a revenue opportunity for e-reader suppliers and OEMs since tablet PCs and e-readers target different consumers," Stephanie Ethier, senior analyst at In-Stat, said in a statement.

In-Stat said tablet PC shipments will reach 58 million in 2014.
