EBay to offer contextual advertising

San Jose, Calif.—Auction site eBay plans to launch a contextual advertising system called eBay AdContext, which will let merchants run ads on sites based on relevant keywords. Sites running the ads will receive a commission on any resulting sales. The model is similar to contextual ad models of Google and Yahoo! The plan was announced at eBay’s developers’ conference over the weekend in Las Vegas.
