Despite economy, ABM going ahead with annual meeting

Published on .

New York—American Business Media confirmed Monday that it will hold its annual meeting, slated for May 3–6 in Amelia Island, Fla., despite the fact that several other publishing organizations, including the Magazine Publishers of America and the Western Publications Association, canceled their annual conferences because of the economy. “We’ve had our annual meeting since 1906 and held it during the Great Depression, two World Wars and several police actions,” said Gordon T. Hughes II, president-CEO of ABM. Hughes acknowledged that the organization did consider moving the meeting location to one “less celebrated” than the Ritz-Carlton resort in Amelia Island, but contractual obligations made such a switch cost prohibitive.
