EDS announces third-quarter earnings

Published on .

Plano, Texas--Electronic Data Systems Corp. this week announced a marginal third-quarter net loss of $600,000; net income was $26 million for the quarter, compared with $86 million in net income for the same period last year. The company also announced plans to layoff 5,200 employees, or 4% of its 135,000 employees, by the end of next year. That number almost doubles the company's previous announcement in June, when EDS said it would layoff 2,700 employees as part of an overall "transformation plan."
