Plano, Texas--Electronic Data Systems Corp. has fired 400 consultants at its A.T. Kearny Inc. unit. The job cuts equal 8% of A.T. Kearney's work force. The company cited the softening U.S. economy for the cuts. Paul Rabb, A.T. Kearney's director of public relations, said that the company is still hiring in Europe and Japan, and noted that it recently opened a Bangkok office. Most consultancies are ailing from the U.S. slowdown and are reporting stronger growth--at least for now--in Europe. Business in much of Asia, meanwhile, is robust. A.T. Kearney's competitors, including KPMG Consulting Inc. and PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P., have also been reducing their work forces.
