New York--EMarketer Inc. has released a report that predicts worldwide b-to-b e-commerce will grow to $2.7 trillion by 2004, rising from $226 billion reported for fiscal 2000. The New York-based researcher said old-line global companies will fuel the boom. Though the dot-com threat of new competitors has subsided, established companies will feel pressure from their longtime competitors to match or exceed Internet technical advances. The report said only 8% to 10% of the largest 5,000 corporations had deployed Internet purchasing software, and that 74% of all large companies planned to meet or exceed 2000 expenditures on information technology in 2001.
