EMarketer reports 38% growth in online newspaper revenue

Published on .

New York—Online newspaper revenue reached $1.3 billion in 2004, up 38% over 2003, and is poised to grow by 36% in 2005, according to a new report by Internet research firm eMarketer.

By 2008, online newspaper revenue will reach $2.3 billion, the report projected.

The report, titled, “Online Publishing: Focus on Newspapers,” was released today.

The growth in online newspaper revenue is driven by a strong online advertising market, as well as a behavioral shift by readers toward online newspapers, according to eMarketer.

The strongest area of growth is in the online operations of traditional newspapers, the report found.
