EMarketer: Search spurs mobile ad spending momentum

New York—Long-range growth of marketing dollars flowing to mobile is robust, according to eMarketer, which predicts mobile ad spending will reach $1.56 billion by 2013, up from $416 million this year.

Among mobile formats, the Internet market research company sees the biggest spurt coming from search ads, which are projected to grow from 18% of total mobile spending to 37% ($577.2 million) by 2013. SMS text messaging, though experiencing growth like all mobile channels, will drop in total share of ad expenditures, from 60% of the total to 28% by 2013, eMarketer predicted.
