EMarketer survey forecast: Online ad spending to jump 7% in 2001

New York--Online ad spending will jump to $7.6 billion in 2001, up 7% over the $7.1 billion spent in 2000. Emarketer Inc. predicts that online ad spending will rise to $10.3 billion in 2002, and explode to $23 billion by 2005. "The bloom may be off the Internet advertising rose, but we are now entering a period of reality rather than hype," said Jonathan Jackson, senior analyst. Other key eMarketer findings include: 90% of online ads are direct response-oriented, and 99.7% of banner ads are not clicked on.
