F+W Media shutters ‘I.D. Magazine'

New York—F+W Media announced Tuesday that it is closing I.D. Magazine, which covers the design world.

The January/February 2010 issue will be the publication's last. The magazine debuted 55 years ago.

F+W Media said it will continue producing the I.D. Annual Design Review, which is an international product design competition, online. "Certainly the downturn in print advertising has contributed to this decision, but other factors include the fragmentation and specialized information needs of I.D.'s core readers (product designers) and the plethora of information resources available to them—some for free (online and B2B) and others that are highly specialized and targeted to specific industries served," Gary Lynch, publisher-editorial director of the F+W Media Design Community, wrote in a memo.
