Facebook acquires Mobile Technologies

Published on .

Menlo Park, Calif.—Facebook Inc. has acquired Mobile Technologies, a speech recognition and machine translation technology company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition of Mobile Technologies, based in Pittsburgh, is expected to expand the way users interact with the Facebook platform, including the use of voice recognition with mobile devices, Facebook said on its blog. Mobile Technologies' Jibbigo application allows users to record or type phrases in more than 25 languages, with translations displayed or read aloud. The company's operations and an unspecified number of employees will be moved to Facebook headquarters and blended into its engineering team, Mobile Technologies said in a statement.
