Palo Alto, Calif.—Facebook has decided to end the daily deals program it launched in April,
leaving the field to other major players such as Groupon and LivingSocial.
The Facebook Deals service was similar to its competitors', but with a greater social media approach. It allowed users to “like” deals that appear within their Facebook pages and, along with other “likes,” to participate in group bargain purchases from local businesses.
In other Facebook news, the site has introduced a set of tools that, among other features, allows users to specify more easily on a page who can view parts of their profiles. The new tools also provide more convenient controls over ads that are deemed intrusive.
