Menlo Park, Calif.—Facebook has officially launched its new Timeline interface,
replacing the current bulleted information format and limited visible postings with a detailing of users' entire Facebook history.
Users who volunteer now to switch to the new format, first announced in September, will have a week to edit their profiles to decide what information will be public, and to change or delete items. The new format eventually will become the default Facebook view.
Facebook Timeline has been criticized
by the Electronic Privacy Information Center for forcing more privacy settings on Facebook users. Last month, Facebook settled
with the Federal Trade Commission over complaints that the social site overrode users' own privacy settings and shared users' information with advertisers.
