Facebook partners with PayPal for ad payment option

Palo Alto, Calif.—Facebook announced that PayPal’s online payment service would be offered in parts of its advertising and developer systems as an alternate way for marketers to pay for ads.

The availability of PayPal’s payment option on Facebook is expected to make the ad-buying process on the social site easier, particularly for international and smaller companies for which the payment process is difficult, according to the company. PayPal also will become a payment option for Facebook Credits, giving users an additional way to buy music, e-cards and other goods on Facebook.

Facebook received its first investment of $500,000 in 2004 from PayPal cofounder Peter Thiel, who still sits on the company’s board.
