Facebook testing 'trending topics' in news feed

Published on .

Menlo Park, Calif.—Facebook Inc. is testing a trending topics-like feature within users' news feeds, similar to the Twitter feature that highlights popular tweets, according to reports. A report in The Wall Street Journal said the new feature consists of a “trending” box that sits on the top right-hand side of users' news feeds, highlighting popular hashtags on the site. The feature is being tested with a small percentage of U.S. users, according to the report. Last month Facebook announced plans to sell TV-like spots that would appear within users' news feeds.
