Fax bill expected to be introduced in the Senate this month

Published on .

Washington, D.C.—A bill to permit faxes in cases where there’s an established business relationship is expected to be introduced in the Senate soon. The legislation would modify the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), which prohibits the sending of unsolicited faxes without the express consent of the recipient. David Straus, a partner at Thompson Coburn, American Business Media’s Washington counsel, said he expects hearings on the bill in mid-April. Last year, a similar bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives but was blocked in the Senate by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.).
