FedEx to send small business services into Orbit

Published on .

FedEx Corp. said Tuesday that it plans to introduce by July 1 a site that will provide e-commerce capabilities to companies with 100 or fewer employees. Memphis-based FedEx has signed a strategic alliance with Orbit Commerce, Chicago, to build the site, which will feature rental application service provider services on the Internet. Basic services will include catalog building, transactions and shipping, and there are long-term plans to provide rental services for e-mail marketing and other advanced services, Paul Reilly, Orbit CEO, said. All sites will be linked to FedEx shipping applications. The deal is an example of FedEx using its trusted brand to extend into additional forms of logistics services, while also supporting its core shipping business.
