Ford works with dealers to go direct

Dearborn, Mich.--Ford has finally figured out how to go direct--by relying on its dealer network. The Ford Dealer Council said Friday that it is forming a new enterprise,, that will let consumers configure and buy cars online and have them delivered by a local dealer. It's a model that's been used by independent Web car-buying sites, much to the chagrin of the Big Three. The new enterprise will be jointly owned and supported by participating Ford dealers and Ford Motor Co.
