Forrester buys Fletcher to boost U.K. coverage

Cambridge, Mass.--Forrester Research has bought London-based Internet consulting firm Fletcher Research Ltd. for an undisclosed sum to boost its coverage of the nascent U.K. Internet market. The purchase is significant because it gives Forrester, an e-commerce consulting firm, access to Fletcher's wide range of b-to-b-oriented clients doing business in the U.K., such as Microsoft Corp., Redmond, Wash.; Cisco Systems, San Jose, Calif.; McKinsey & Co., New York; and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co., New York. Forrester said it will account for the acquisition as a "pooling of interest," and will take a one-time charge of between $500,000 and $700,000 in the fourth quarter.
