Forrester predicts e-commerce revenue will reach $262 billion this year

Published on .

Cambridge, Mass.—E-commerce sales will reach $262 billion this year, up 13% over last year, making up 8% of total retail sales, according to a new report from Forrester Research. The report, “U.S. Online Retail Forecast, 2012 to 2017,” projects that e-commerce sales will grow to $370 billion by 2017, 10% of total retail sales. “This growth will be abetted by traditional stores' investments in Web businesses to support a multichannel strategy, the blistering pace of mobile device adoption and the fact that consumers are more comfortable with purchasing online,” wrote Forrester analyst Sucharita Mulpuru, author of the report.
