New York—Financial Times said its FT Web App has surpassed 1 million users since its debut in June. The app uses HTML5 technology and can be viewed directly in the Web browser of an iPhone or iPad.
The performance of the app is being watched closely by the media sector because its design enables FT to bypass Apple Inc.'s App Store and its 30% commission fee.
According to FT, its app accounts for 20% of total page views on FT.com. It also said FT.com users who register on mobile devices are 2½ times more likely to subscribe.
