Gains in newspaper advertising forecast

Vienna, Va.--Newspaper advertising is expected to improve by 3.2% to 6.1% in 2003, according to the Newspaper Association of America. In the NAA’s Presstime magazine, Jim Conaghan, VP-business analysis and research for the NAA, wrote that he expected the positive gain in the third quarter of 2002 to continue in the fourth quarter and into 2003. Conaghan acknowledged that the possibility of war with Iraq clouded the task of forecasting.
