Gannett names chief digital officer, CMO

McLean, Va.—Gannett Co., publisher of USA Today, has named David A. Payne senior VP-chief digital officer. He succeeds Chris Saridakis, who left about a year ago. Payne was most recently president-CEO of ShortTail Media, a video ad technology start-up. Previously, he was senior VP-general manager of CNN.com.

The announcement follows Gannett's naming of Maryam Banikarim as the company's senior VP-CMO, a newly created position. Banikarim will also be a member of the Gannett management committee. She was most recently senior VP-integrated sales marketing at NBC Universal. Previously, she was CMO of Univision Communications.
