Gannett names execs for USA Today Live project

Washington, D.C.--In a move that heralds the increasing importance of streaming media on the Web, Gannett Co.'s USA Today announced Tuesday the hiring of personnel for the newspaper's USA Today Live project. This broadcast and Internet initiative will extend the newspaper's brand to Gannett Broadcastings' local TV stations as well as expanding USAToday.com from a print-based format to one using streaming audio and video. Dick Moore, currently news director at WXII-TV in Winston-Salem, N.C., will join USA Today Live Feb. 28 as managing editor. Additionally, Valery Lodato, who was most recently a Gannett Broadcasting news producer, joined the new project as executive producer. USA Today has an average daily circulation of 2.3 million, the largest in the U.S. Gannett Broadcasting has 21 TV stations.
