GE prepares for next step in Internet initiative

Fairfield, Conn.--General Electric Co. is expected in late July to launch the latest step in its ongoing Internet initiative, which will feature a variety of market-focused Web sites. For example, one of the sites is said to target the automotive industry, providing access to the GE Plastics site and the sites of other GE divisions serving that sector. In January GE Chairman Jack Welch issued a directive that every GE business unit have its own Web site by the end of 1999.
