While shopping for friends and family can be challenging over the holiday season, finding the perfect gift for clients and business colleagues can be even more daunting. In her new book, "Top Dog Sales Secrets," editor Tina LoSasso lists five gift-giving mistakes to avoid this season. First, select quality over quantity. "A small box of exquisite, handmade truffles will be appreci-

ated far more than a big box of run-of-the-mill chocolates," LoSasso advises. Second, reject "ho-hum" gifts such as food baskets and opt for more personalized gifts based on the recipient's hobbies, such as an illustrated regional cookbook for someone who enjoys cooking. Third, don't even think about advertising. "Sending gifts with your company's logo on them makes you look stingier than Scrooge," LoSassa said. Fourth, beware of booze. And, finally, avoid gender-specific gifts such as lotions or spa kits for women clients or colleagues. "Sorry guys," says LoSasso. "You're not in the club." —
