GlobalSpec survey finds heavy use of Web by its registrants

Troy, N.Y.—Seventy-three percent of respondents to a GlobalSpec survey said they spend three or more hours online for work.

The survey by GlobalSpec, a search engine for the engineering and manufacturing industries, found that 42% of respondents, most of them holding engineering titles at industrial companies, said they spend six hours or more online for work.

The survey also found that more than 80% of respondents specified products online, and almost 70% purchased industrial products online. Thirty-percent said they had decreased their use of print trade publications.

The survey, which was conducted online in January, had 3,810 respondents, all of them GlobalSpec registered users. The resulting report is titled “2009 Economic Outlook Survey: How Industrial Companies can Succeed in the Current Economy.”
