GlobalSpec survey shows optimism in manufacturing, tech sectors

By Published on .

Troy, N.Y.—Engineering, technical, manufacturing and industrial companies are indicating greater optimism about their business prospects this year, with nearly half anticipating an increase in sales, according to a new report from vertical search engine GlobalSpec.

The company's “2010 Economic Outlook Survey: How Industrial Companies Can Succeed in the Current Economy” was based on an online poll of about 2,000 professionals from these sectors in the U.S. It showed that 47% expect sales to be up this year, while 26% forecast sales to be down. In 2009, 56% of survey respondents said economic conditions would lead to sales being down.

The three top areas where companies will be devoting time and effort in 2010 are entering new markets, new-product design and development, and researching future projects, according to the survey.
