Goldman starts $5.25B fund

New York--Goldman Sachs & Co. has raised a $5.25 billion private equity fund to invest in technology start-ups and leveraged buyouts throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia, according to published reports. It is one of the largest investment funds ever. The fund is the latest of many ventures by Goldman Sachs & Co. into the Internet space, among them several b-to-b bond and derivatives exchanges. The largest private equity fund ever was raised by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. in 1996 for $6 billion.
