Goldman starts $5.25B tech fund

Goldman Sachs & Co. has raised a $5.25 billion private equity fund to invest in technology start-ups and leveraged buyouts throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. The fund is the latest of many ventures by Goldman Sachs & Co. into the Internet space, among them several b-to-b bond and derivatives exchanges. The largest private equity fund ever was raised by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. in 1996 for $6 billion.
