Google adds check-in deals to location-based service

Mountain View, Calif.—Google has entered the check-in and daily deals business, made popular by Foursquare and Groupon, respectively, by adding "check-in deals" to its location-based mobile service.

Companies that participate can provide customers a variety of offers for digital coupons and samples, depending on how often they check in at a particular location using Google's Latitude service, a mobile smartphone app that broadcasts a user's current location to friends.

Companies participating in the service include American Eagle Outfitters, Macy's, Quiznos and RadioShack Corp.
