Mountain View, Calif.—Google Monday announced the launch of Google Apps for Your Domain, a set of hosted applications for companies that want to provide communications tools to their users online without installing and maintaining software or hardware.
Two levels of service are being offered. One is a standard edition, available immediately as a beta product, without cost to domain administrators or end users. A premium version is being developed for organizations “with more advanced needs,” according to Google, and will be made available soon.
Companies using the applications can customize the user interface with their own branding and select from such elements as e-mail, messaging, calendar capabilities as well as other Web-based tools.
The new set of hosted applications is an expansion of the Gmail for Your Domain service that was introduced in February.
Separately, Google announced it has signed a multiyear agreement with eBay to provide text-based advertising and click-to-call advertising functionality for the e-commerce auction site outside the U.S. The companies plan to begin testing the initiatives in early 2007, Google said.
