Google buys Frommer's: The final nail in the travel publishing coffin?

By Published on .

Google's intent to buy travel guide Frommer's for $23 million was in the news this week. According to the Content Matters blog, Google's interest in Frommer's is focused on bolstering its local reviews, in conjunction with last year's acquisition of Zagat. More user reviews should be a boon for the Google+ social network, and also ties into Google's flight listings data which the search behemoth got via last year's acquisition of ITA Software. What intrigues Content Matters is the possibility that Google will bring this content to the mobile platform, "where it ultimately belongs."
