Mountain View, Calif.—Google and Comcast are in talks to acquire a stake in Time Warner’s AOL, according to several published reports.
“Google's size and sizable cash position seem to be producing an increasing amount of speculation,” said Lauren Rich Fine, research analyst at Merrill Lynch, in its ML Research e-mail Thursday. "Presumably, if Google/AOL talks are taking place it would have something to do with AOL's search affiliation; AOL is Google's largest affiliate. The fact that Yahoo and MSN are in talks to make instant messaging more ubiquitous between the two services seems to only be adding further speculation."
Microsoft has also been reported to be interested in obtaining a stake in AOL.
