Google expected to announce health portal

Published on .

Mountain View, Calif.—Google Health, a vertical portal dedicated to health information, is expected to be one of the announcements the search engine giant will be making Wednesday at its annual Google Press Day.

The new portal is expected to be similar to Google Finance, a vertical information site announced in March that is now in beta testing.

According to online measurement company Hitwise, 2.67% of Google's traffic in April went to sites in the health and medical category. Yahoo! Search sent 2.43% of its traffic to this category, while MSN Search sent 1.97%.

Hitwise said the U.S. National Library of Medicine and WebMD are the leading sites receiving traffic from Google, which it says may provide clues as to where Google will get its content.
