Google to launch IM product, according to reports

Published on .

Mountain View, Calif.—Widely speculated about for months, Google is said to be launching an instant messaging product dubbed Google Talk as early as tomorrow, according to reports. Google could not be reached for comment.

“I’ve heard it’s anything from an IM client to full-blown free WiFi for the masses,” wrote media industry wonk John Battelle, in his daily Weblog, “John Battelle’s Searchblog.”

“I have no special insight into this, but I do believe IM is a no-brainer. MSFT, Yahoo! and AOL all have IM clients. IM ties folks to a platform, and that’s what Google is building with Desktop et al. VoIP is another possibility.”
