Google leads in online video; Facebook overtakes Yahoo

Reston, Va.—Online videos views in the U.S. reached 36.9 billion in July, up slightly from the previous month, according to online intelligence company comScore Inc. Google Inc. sites, predominantly its YouTube channel, continued to dominate, with a 53.1% share of all online video views. Video views on Facebook moved into second place, ahead of Yahoo for the first time. Music video site Vevo was fourth, followed by Microsoft sites. Video advertising jumped sharply year over year, to 9.6 billion views in July, up 81.1% over the year-earlier period. In descending order, Google sites, Hulu, Adap.tv and SpotXchange each served more than 1 billion video ads for the month, comScore reported.
