Google to test email mentions within search results

Published on .

Mountain View, Calif.—Google Inc. is testing a new search feature integrated into its Gmail email platform that will return related search results from users' personal email accounts. Participants in the trial who type in a search query—about a brand, for example, or purchasing information—will receive results not only from the public Web but also from related mentions contained within their own email messages as well as references in emails received from friends. Google is aiming for 1 million Gmail users to sign up for the test. The new feature will be accessible only on www.google.com in English.
