Google tests new performance-based Product Ads

By Published on .

Mountain View, Calif.—Search giant Google is testing a new ad and payment service that would display specific products in response to user queries and allow advertisers to pay for those ads only when a sale is completed.

Google has been soliciting advertisers to participate in its beta Product Ads service, which features product-specific information such as prices and product images directly in ads. The company added that the ads would complement standard text ads on Google.com.

Google’s testing of alternate ad display and compensation models comes as it is facing competition from Microsoft Corp.’s new Bing search engine. Among Bing’s features are rebate offers to consumers for purchases made through featured e-commerce sites.
