Grainger sales up 8% in 2004

Chicago—W.W. Grainger reported Thursday that its sales of $5 billion last year were up 8% from from $4.7 billion in 2003. Net earnings for the year were $287 million, up 26% from $227 million in 2003. Earnings per share were $3.13 for the year, up 27% from $2.46.

 Sales in the fourth quarter were $1.3 billion, up 10% from 2003’s fourth quarter. Net earnings of $90 million were up 45% from $62 million a year earlier. Earnings per share were $0.98 up from $0.67 in the same period 2003. Sales processed through grainger.com increased 27% to $157 million from $124 million in the fourth quarter 2003.

For the full year, sales through grainger.com were $611 million, up 28% from $479 million in 2003.
