Granada acquires United News & Media's TV business

Published on .

London--Granada Media announced Friday it has agreed to acquire the broadcast TV business of United News & Media for $2.65 billion in cash and stock. United's bid to merge with fellow broadcaster Carlton Communications was officially scuttled July 21. Including its recent sales of Miller Freeman Inc. in the U.S. and Miller Freeman Europe, United has sold properties worth more than $4.5 billion in the past half year. The divestment leaves London-based United to focus on its newspaper and business publishing units, which include tech media company CMP Media in the U.S.
