London--Granada Group plc, a conglomerate that includes a media division that competes with Carlton Communications plc and United News & Media, said Friday that it is mulling an acquisition of either Carlton or United News, the parent company of Miller Freeman. Granada said it is making a formal submission to the U.K.'s Office of Fair Trading requesting permission to acquire either Carlton or United News, according to Dow Jones Newswires. A spokesman for United News told Businessmarketing.com that a bid by Granada would not derail the planned merger between Carlton and United News, which was announced late last year.
