aims to give its audience a share of voice equal to that of its editorial team. Design News was a Reed Business Information brand until February 2010, when Canon Communications bought it. United Business Media acquired Canon that October and combined Design News and other former Canon engineering titles with its EE Times Group to form UBM Electronics, which also includes such brands as EBN, EDN, EE Times and TechOnline.
Design News, relaunched in June 2011, was designed in partnership with UBM DeusM, which specializes in developing multimedia publishing platforms to power b-to-b communities. Kathy Astromoff, CEO of UBM Electronics, said, “DeusM collaborated with us to create an "always on,' globally accessible online design community that facilitates industry dialogue and drives technology sales.”
One new feature is Design News Radio, a live-streaming audio program that includes eChat instant-message technology, enabling users to participate with moderators and speakers in real time. A new continuing education center sponsored by Digi-Key also has live-streaming and chat components.
