Guibord raising the bar at IDG flagship

By Published on .

Name: Alan Guibord
Title: CEO, Computerworld
Company: International Data Group
Goal: To strengthen Computerworld’s position in the IT space.
Alan Guibord admits it was an unusual move when he took over late last year as CEO of Computerworld.

Despite the current market anxieties, Guibord is marching ahead with several initiatives. In February, he’ll oversee the launch of ROI. The publication, which will target CIOs, will run six times this year, packaged with Computerworld.

Following the hammering of Internet stocks in 2000, traditional companies are tentative when it comes to trying to harness the Web, Guibord said. "The Internet didn’t turn out to be what [companies] had expected," he said. "There are a lot of frustrated CIOs out there. So we need to help the decision-makers."

Guibord said he’s eager to expand Storage Networkworld, a Computerworld trade show, to Japan and Europe, in addition to the two shows scheduled this year in Palm Springs, Calif. He is also expanding the Computerworld Honors Program, which recognizes companies that have used technology to help humanity.

"People are looking for the impact beyond the news," Guibord said. "We just don’t report the news, but tell our readers what it means and how they can deal with it."
