Hearst names Swartz COO

Published on .

New York—Hearst Corp. announced that Steven R. Swartz has been named COO of the company. He was previously president of Hearst Newspapers.

Mark E. Aldam, previously exec VP-deputy group head of Hearst Newspapers, will succeed Swartz as president of the group.

“Steve will be an excellent chief operating officer for Hearst, just as he has distinguished himself in every role he has had across our company since 1991,” said Frank A. Bennack, Jr., CEO of Hearst Corp., in a statement.

Hearst emphasized Swartz's active role in many Hearst digital initiatives, such as aiding in the newspaper industry's consortium with Yahoo; launching the newspaper industry's partnership with Zillow; and forming quadrantONE, a national online sales network co-owned by Gannett Co., Hearst Corp., New York Times Co. and Tribune Co.
