BOSTON -- Business-to-business e-commerce is about to enter a high-growth phase, increasing at a compound annual growth rate of 41% over the next five years, according to the Yankee Group. The firm projects that b-to-b e-commerce transaction volume will grow nearly four times (from $138 billion to $541 billion) between 1999 and 2003. ``Business-to-business electronic commerce has been treated in the media and the Internet marketplace like the ugly stepchild to the more glamorous business-to-consumer electronic commerce,'' said the Yankee Group's Harry Tse. ``But b-to-b e-commerce procurement activity, with its material bottom-line benefits, is spawning rapid adoption by buyers across many industries, which in turn is compelling more and more sellers to offer b-to-b e-commerce capabilities.''
