Hiring for tech jobs fails to pick up

Published on .

San Francisco--Outplacement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas Inc. Friday released a survey that shows little change in the job outlook for technology employment, which had been expected to grow. According to the survey, more than 243,000 jobs have been cut this year in telecom, computers and e-commerce. Earlier this year Silicon Valley job postings were on the rise and companies anticipated a tech rebound. But on Wednesday communications equipment maker Agere Systems Inc. said it would cut 4,000 jobs and IBM Corp. announced 15,600 jobs cuts--its broadest reduction since the early 1990s and twice what had been expected.
