HootSuite acquires social management company Seesmic

Vancouver, British Columbia—Social media management company HootSuite Media has acquired competitor Seesmic, a privately owned company that also allows users to simultaneously manage user accounts for multiple social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to increase HootSuite's user base, as Seesmic is estimated to have more than 1 million registered users, according to tech website Theverge.com. In a blog post, HootSuite said it plans to transition Seesmic's business users to HootSuite's services. HootSuite currently has about 4.5 million users worldwide. HootSuite said Seesmic business customers can try HootSuite Pro for a free 30-day trial, after which the cost will be $9.99 a month.
